Paul B. Altman has been involved in the real estate profession for over thirty years. He is the Managing Director of Altman Real Estate and Ambassador and Chairman of the Savills Caribbean Associates. He has been at the forefront of developments in Barbados’ luxury residential market: he was among those instrumental in the establishment of the Royal Westmoreland golf residential community; led the development of the highly successful Sugar Hill Resort; and helped to set the tone for resort communities in Barbados on a whole. He is at the helm of the development of the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, Barbados first mixed-use centre. Limegrove’s commercial aspect comprises close to 100 retailers and restaurants, a nightclub and cinemas; the residential component is ongoing.
Paul is an avid golfer. He is also involved in urban renewal programs in Barbados’ local towns. As a Past President of the Barbados National Trust he led the development of two museums, the Nidhe Israel Museum and the Arlington Museum. The Barbadian Government recognized his efforts by awarding him a Centennial Honour in 2000 and a Gold Crown of Merit in 2007.
Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Masonic Lodge Restoration and Preservation Trust and is a member of the Task Force on the Preservation of Barbados’ Built Heritage. Due to his long association with the arts, Paul was appointed to the Board of the National Art Gallery in March 2011.
Paul is Chairman of the Barbados Community Foundation, a private charity, and is a trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Barbados. In 2013 he was presented with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal for his service to this award scheme and to the Barbados Youth Business Trust. Another one of Paul’s passions is education. In 2008 he was presented with the University of the West Indies’ Caribbean Luminary Award and inducted into The University of the West Indies Chancellor’s Circle. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Campus Council at the university’s Cave Hill Campus.
Paul earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami and also holds an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of the West Indies. He is married to artist Rachelle Altman and they are the parents of two daughters.
